2017 is over and the new year of 2018 just started. With that said you might also know it´s time to take a look at Pantone’s Color of the year! This year, the Pantone Color Institute chose PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet as the Color for 2018.
Every year since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute, which calls itself the “global color authority”, has chosen a color that reflects the current cultural climate.
In the following years, the color has historically influenced trends in all aspects of design – architecture, interior design, fashion, food and travel.
Ultra Violet as a color communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future. “The selection of Ultra Violet speaks to our shared desire for deeper understanding in an increasingly complex landscape, and our eagerness to experiment to reach that level,” said the Pantone Color Institute.
To each year have a new color has become a tradition and it represents so much more than what we can imagine. It helps us give a reflection of the world and shows more than just the latest trends. “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 ultra violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought Ultra Violet to western pop culture and expressed their own individuality through the color. Be sure to see much more of Ultra Violet in 2018. Not only in architecture, interior design and fashion, but also in packaging!
