Eco Design Fair Shanghai 2016: beat the heat!

Last weekend the Lafayette Arts & Design Center was hosting the 8th Eco Design Fair in Shanghai. On the occasion of the World Environment Day on June 5th, this fair was exhibiting more than 100 local and international brands, providing interactive art installations and life performances, fashion presentations and even educational seminars.

Sherry Poon, the Founder of the Eco Design Fair, says that the main purpose of this annually event is to educate the local community to learn about sustainability. This year the topic of the fair was “Beat the Heat”, which means celebrating the positive power of the heat instead of being daunted by the challenges of climate change.

Eco & More, the sponsor of EDF 2016, was exhibiting its luxurious but also affordable products that are good for both your body and the environment. Moreover, this company also prepared a ‘refill station’ where visitors could bring any plastic bottles for a refill of Eco & More’s popular organic dishwashing machine liquid.

The Climate Change Exhibition by Business Ecology was conducting seminars on how to find an eco way of life to help Shanghai residents “redesign the system of life for happiness and sustainability”. At the 4R + Swap Shop (4R stands for repair, reuse, refill and recycle) visitors could learn how to repair their beloved items, from small electronics to bicycles, in order to reuse them again.

On the 3rd floor you could find the marketplace with healthy delicacies by well-known Shanghai organic restaurants and bars such as Hunter Gatherer, Pure & Whole, Lizzy’s All Natural, Daliah, Kate and Kimi, and LOHAS café.

The main stage was on the third floor too where it was possible to enjoy yoga classes, seminars and dance performances.

It was nice to participate in this environmentally friendly event! Many of the city’s green companies had been showcasing there, and some of them are currently developing really interesting projects that are worth checking out. Not a bad way to spend your Saturday or Sunday afternoon and you could also grab a healthy bite while you were there!
