Today we sat down with our Senior Production Project Manager Yan to learn more about her.
What do you do at Swedbrand? What are your main tasks? What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I do basically is following the project production, checking how it is working, and keeping in touch with factories and suppliers. When there is a new product, my responsibility is to find a way to develop it, with sometimes extremely complicated projects coming along the way. The part I enjoy the most is when the problem is solved, of course!
Do you find your job challenging?
Yes, we do face challenges every day. We need to make sure that the product quality is good and that we meet the deadlines, especially for new products. I think that one of the most difficult things for me is matching the colours. Moreover, you always need to check if the product is suitable for the client, if it meets his/her needs.
What do you like most about working in the multicultural environment of a foreign company?
I think that the most exciting thing is that you can meet a lot of different people from all over the world, get to know their lifestyles, what they eat, which language they speak, and learn something new about them. I would say that I love working for foreign companies because I really like flexible environments. That’s why I have never worked for a Chinese company and I probably would not be able to do it: too many rules to follow and not enough open-mindedness.
You are from Malaysia, what brought you to Shanghai? What do you like most about the city? What do you miss?
I got married in China, that’s why I decided to move to Shanghai. I have been living here for about 3 years already. Compared to other cities in China, Shanghai is cool because you can find anything you want, especially if you love western food like I do! The only thing I don’t like is that sometimes it is too crowded, but still very convenient!
You recently became a proud mommy, how has it been? How do you feel about coming back to work for Swedbrand after only four month?
I was really happy to come back to work because I really enjoy my job here at Swedbrand, I actually prefer working than staying at home. Thank God I have my mother-in-law who takes care of my baby.
How do you relax in your free time? And how do you manage to keep work-life balance with two full-time jobs?
There is nothing special about my free time to be honest. As I said, I don’t really like crowded places, so I don’t go out that much. I would rather walk around in my neighbourhood, take my baby to the park, or do housework during my spare time. Right now I don’t have any problems with my work-life balance, my mother-in-law is taking care of my child. But I am not sure how it will be in the next years; I will probably need to send my daughter to the kindergarten. I really like travelling when I can, even though now my child is still very young, so we don’t have the chance to go abroad that much.
