A Second Life for Ocean Plastic

Envision Plastics is a main actor in the post-consumer recycled plastic in the US. They are specialized in HDPE resins, one of the most flexible and easy-to-recycle plastics. With their proprietary OceanBound plastic, they have now launched the world’s first bottle made from 100% recycled plastic.

Every year tons of plastics are dumped into the ocean. OceanBound Plastic is a plastic obtained from at-risk zones and can totally be modified in terms of colors and shapes. The company already used in the past for other products manufacture.

So what is really innovative here is that Envision’s OceanBound Plastic is made from completely recycled plastic with the added benefit of being collected from at-risk areas which eliminates that plastic from reaching beaches and waterways.

Such initiative shows that the best way to solve the plastic pollution problem is using the plastic that is already at our disposal.

The new bottle is currently being used as packaging for Primal Group’s Vita brand of personal care products. Primal Group is a long-term advocate of environment sustainability, as it claims: “More than 8 million tons of plastics are dumped into our oceans annually. We cannot allow our biggest resource, the ocean, to become a dumping ground for plastics and other waste.”

More than ever, customers are aware of the risks of plastic in our environment, especially for our one and only ocean, so brands should be too.

Envision Plastics general manager Dan Ferussaid: “Envision is proud of the work we are doing by collecting and recycling OceanBound plastic, but we are excited that it was able to displace 100% of the virgin resin in the bottle and colorant.”

“We hope that this is the first of many and invite all companies to find a way to add Envision’s OceanBound Plastic into their products and packaging”.
